National: Tender for 44 Vande Bharat Express trains got canceled on August 21 after a decision made by Indian Railways. The tender to manufacture 44 trainsets got canceled after a state-owned Chinese rolling stock emerged as the sole foreign bidder. The Chinese joint venture company CRRC Pioneer Electric (India) Private Limited emerged as the only foreign bidder. The joint venture (JV) of China-based CRRC Yongji Electric Co. Ltd. and Gurugram-based Pioneer Fil-med Private Limited was established in 2015. It was scrapped after the Chinese JV got shortlisted. The JV was likely to get the contract. As per the Revised Public Procurement, the Ministry will issue a fresh tender within a week. The new tender will aim to give momentum Centre\u2019s AtmaNirbhar mission. Also, it will promote Indian firms. On July 10, Indian Railways\u2019 Integral Coach Factory issued a tender. The tender is for manufacturing 44 train sets of the Vande Bharat semi-high speed Express. Apart from the Chinese JV, also there were five other bidders. The other five bidders include: 1. State-owned Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited 2. Powernetics Equipment India Private Limited 3. Medha Servo Drives Private Limited 4. Electrowaves Electronics (P) Ltd 5. Bharat Industries, Sangrur The decision to scrap the tender comes at a time when India and China were involved in a tense border stand-off. Also, earlier on July 1, the Indian Railways dismissed a tender for thermal cameras meant for COVID-19 surveillance. Indian Railways did the scrapping after complaints from Indian firms. The ambitious \u2018Make in India\u2019 project involves the manufacturing of 44 train sets. It comprises 16 coaches each for Vande Bharat. In February 2019, PM Narendra flagged off the maiden Vande Bharat train.
