Health and Family Welfare Department of Assam along with the National Health Mission and Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday organized a screening camp at the GMCH campus. The screening camp was organized under the \u2018Sneha Sparsha\u2019 Health Initiative for children suffering from serious health issues such as Thalassemia, kidney transplant, liver, blood cancer, and bone marrow transplant. GMCH Hospital Superintendent Abhijit Sarma stated that if required children will be sent to other states for advanced treatment. He further informed that the screening camp will be held regularly on a quarterly basis and all the treatments required will be done free of cost. Abhijit also informed that under the Sneha Sparsha scheme, a total of 45 bone marrow transplants were done till now. Earlier on October 10, 185 children got registered in the Sneha Sparsha camp, and after screening it was found out that there were 122 patients for Thalassemia, 33 blood cancer, 3 liver, and 10 kidney transplants.
