The Azara police on Wednesday, in addition to arresting the prime accused Neel Nakhastra Das, also apprehended four other accused in connection with the JEE exam scam in Assam. The four accused in the Assam JEE scam have been identified as Dr. Jyotirmoy Das, Hamendra Nath Sarma, Pranjal Kalita, and Hirukamal Pathak. Dr. Jyotirmoy Das is the father of Neel. The Guwahati police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DCP (West) to investigate the case. Suprotiv Lal Baruah, Additional DCP (West), Guwahati said, \u201cA complaint was filed in this regard on October 23. We have constituted a special investigation team to probe the allegations. The FIR alleges the candidate used a proxy to appear in the test on his behalf.\u201d One Mitradev Sarmah lodged an FIR at Azara police station against Neel who allegedly cracked the JEE (MAIN) examination on September 5, 2020. Mitradev Sarmah also provided electronic evidence against the student. \u201cAccording to the evidence received, the candidate himself revealed that he came out of the examination hall after doing biometrics with the help of an invigilator and someone else appeared in the examination in place of him. As far the information received, the candidate obtained 99.8 percent and AIR rank without appearing in the examination,\u201d the FIR read.
