Five Adivasi armed groups on ceasefire alongside along with the Adivasi National Convention met Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the office of Assam Accord Implementation Department in Guwahati on Friday. Representatives from the five Adivasi armed groups \u2014 in ceasefire with the state government since 2012 \u2014 Adivasi Cobra Militant Force, Birsa Commando Force, Adivasi People's Army, Adivasi National Liberation Army and Santhal Tiger Force met Sonowal and requested the state government with the demand of a Scheduled Tribe status for the Adivasis living across Assam. The representation also pressed various issues of the community including the need for carrying out various legislative reforms within the community. The members alleged that the then Tarun Gogoi-led state government have not given any due attention to their demand since 2012. However, the group mentioned that the since Bharatiya Janata Party government came into power in Dispur, the state government took the armed group into confidence, starting discussions between them. Calling the Adivasi community as an integral part of the greater Assamese society, Sonowal expressed that his government since the beginning has been undaunted in working towards protecting the rights and privileges of the community. He assured the delegation that the state government will work together with them to solve their outstanding problems.
