Tennis star Grigor Dimitrov tests positive for COVID-19, apologizes for any harm he may have caused

Sports Desk: Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov took to Instagram on Sunday to announce that he has tested positive for the novel corona virus. The three time Grand Slam semifinalist becomes the first high profile tennis player to test positive for the deadly virus.

“Hi Everyone-I want to reach out and let my fans and friends know that I tested positive back in Monaco for Covid-19. I want to make sure anyone who has been in contact with me during these past days gets tested and takes the necessary precautions. I am so sorry for any harm I might have caused. I am back home now and recovering. Thanks for your support and please stay safe and healthy.” Dimitrov’s Instagram statement reads.

Last weekend, the 29 year old took part in the Adria Tour event which included top players like Novak Djokovic, currently ranked number one, World number three Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev, ranked 17. The event has been cancelled following the news where Djokovic was due to play the final.
The world number 19 reportedly pulled out of the two-day event in Zadar after losing 4-1, 4-1 to world number 33 Borna Coric on Saturday.

Dimitrov said he was making his condition public because he wanted to “make sure anyone who has been in contact with me during these past days gets tested.”

There has been criticism of no social distancing at the exhibition, as players were seen hugging, and the stadium was filled to capacity with not many wearing masks in the stands.
