Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said on the Assam Assembly budget session that the home department has been planning to bring back the retired sub-inspectors to deal with the huge numbers of pending cases.
CM addressing the house said, “the retired sub-inspectors aging between 60-65 years will bring them back to investigate the pending cases and charge-sheet them.” He also said that more than 4000 cases pending in the Dispur police station alone were registered against various organizations who staged dharnas.
The chief minister also said that the state government has been working to separate the investigation wing from the law and order wing of the police.
Adding more CM said, “Since police officials have to be busy in VIP and other law and order duties, investigation to cases remain on the backseat. Therefore, there should be a separate investigation wing for speedy probe and justice mechanism.”
Eight hours’ duty shifts planning is also going on for all police personnel so that they can do their work efficiently.
