On Tuesday, after the meeting with Brigadier Jogesh Talukdar, Group Commander, NCC, Guwahati, Gauhati University vice-chancellor Pratap Jyoti Handique agreed to introduce NCC as a credit-based elective subject in the colleges under the varsity. The varsity took the decision in response to the National Cadet Corps (NCC) authority.

A statement by the NCC authority said that the inclusion of NCC as an elective subject would bring revolutionary changes for the students of the northeast and open gates for them to join the armed forces of the country.

The statement also mentioned, “The Vice-Chancellor has agreed in principle to introduce NCC as an elective subject as soon as possible for the betterment of the student community of the northeast region.”
