IAAST to Celebrate 6th ‘SWASCHHATA PAKHWADA’ on the First Two Weeks of May

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IAAST), Guwahati, has dedicated the first two weeks of May, to celebrate the ‘SWASCHHATA PAKHWADA'.

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IAAST), Guwahati, has dedicated the first two weeks of May, to celebrate the ‘SWASCHHATA PAKHWADA’. This annual function under the Swatch Bharat Mission, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, GOI, is being celebrated for the 6th consecutive year, by the IAAST.

“The institute seeks to renew its mandate of cleanliness and hygiene of its research laboratories, hostels, residences, environs, and concerned stakeholders,” Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, Director, IAAST, said.

“Annual celebrations reinvigorate awareness, participation and commitment to Swaschhata Pakhwada’, in a campus where waste management guidelines are implemented in letter and spirit on a daily basis.,” the director added.

Among the several activities planned from 1St to 15th May, intra campus cleanliness and sanitation competitions with awareness programmes on Waste Management guidelines are scheduled on May 5 and 13. Extra campus activities for the ban of single-use plastics, recycling of plastics, solid waste management at Boragaon dumping site, and awareness campaigns for following the Covid-19 latest guidelines are planned from the 7th May. Distribution of sanitizers and masks to the people working/residing near the Boragaon dumping area are part of to the activities to ensure compliance to Covid-19 protocols. The Pakwada program is projected to conclude with a prize distribution function and press release by Director, IASST and prize distribution on 15th May.
