Himanta Biswa Sarma Declares Raimona Sanctuary as National Park

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the eve of World Environment Day declared Raimona Sanctuary as a National Park. This is Assam’s sixth National Park

Assam now has six national parks. Himanta Biswa Sarma further stated that the preliminary work has started for the recognition of Dihing Patkai Sanctuary as a National Park.
Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya last year unveiled the map of the new park at Manas National Park.

Taking to Twitter, Parimal Suklabaidya announced –
“It’s a red letter day for Assam with announcement of Raimona National Park by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr.@himantabiswa on the #WorldEnvironmentDay2021 at Gandhi Mandap. With this new addition, the state has six national parks.”

Till date the existing national parks in Assam are –
• Kaziranga,
• Manas,
• Dibru-Saikhowa, and
• Orang.

Assam Chief Minister taking to Twitter also announced –
“Govt has decided to upgrade Raimona Sanctuary in BTR to a National Park; work is also underway to give national park status to Dehing Patkai. Science & Technology Department of Sate Govt is being rechristened as Dept of Science, Technology and Climate Change, from today.”

On the occasion of World Environment Day, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also planted eleven Rudraksh saplings at Gandhi Mandap in Guwahati on Saturday.
“Coronavirus pandemic has taught us to be responsible towards our environment.
Planting saplings is a firm step towards #EcosystemRestoration.
On #WorldEnvironmentDay, pleased to have planted 11 Rudraksh saplings at Gandhi Mandap, Guwahati.” Himanta Biswa Sarma Twitted.

He also urged the youth to plant more trees and should volunteer to work towards protecting the environment by carrying out sustainable practices following the ideals of the father of the nation.
“I urge youth to plant more trees and work towards protecting environment by embracing sustainable practices following ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
GDD Minister @TheAshokSinghal and other senior officers were present.” HBS wrote on Twitter.
