COVID-19 Spells Tough Times for Bus owners and employees

As travel restrictions and the uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic continues, bus owners and their employees find their financial position in the doldrums.
The State Secretary of All India Road Transport Workers Federation, Biren Sarma said, “If the passengers can travel, how come there are difficulties regarding the bus passengers. The government must extend help to us. At least the Road Tax should be stopped, and additional time should be given for the repayment of loans.”
The restriction on inter-district bus services has hit all the bus owners and employees badly. With many families relying on the economy around bus services, the government should think of their woes more seriously,  Sarma added. He also said, “As many such vehicles are lying idle for more than around two months, some of them are starting to have mechanical issues. Now the bus owners are worried about their ability to pay their EMIs. Many of them have not even been able to pay their staff members.”
Sarma said that we need the government to find a solution as soon as possible, or else our people will face dire financial difficulties.
