Complete construction of Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge by 2023: Directs CM

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited the office of the Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads) (EAP) at Fatasil Ambari in Guwahati and reviewed the implementation status of various bridge construction projects.

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of construction of the Guwahati-North Guwahati connecting bridge and proposed Palasbari-Sualkuchi connecting bridge besides construction of roads under the “Asom Mala” project.

The PWD officials apprising the Chief Minister about the construction status of the Guwahati-North Guwahati connecting bridge informed that around 37% of works of the bridge have been completed. Keeping this in view, the Chief Minister directed the department to complete the bridge by March 2023.

Further while taking stock of the proposed Palasbari-Sualkuchi connecting bridge, the Chief Minister directed to make it a four-lane bridge and to finalize modalities and DPR for the project. The alignment of the bridge was also decided in the meeting while modalities of fund allocation, technical details were also discussed.

Moreover, reviewing various projects under “Asom Mala”, Chief Minister Sarma directed to ensure timely completion of all roads and bridge projects. He also asked to prepare DPR for bridges over Ghunasuti river in Lakhimpur and bridge connecting Kumarikata with Jalah over Pagladia river.

MP Pallab Lochan Das, Commissioner & Special Secretary of PWD (Roads) Rajesh Kemprai, and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
