The Government of Assam has decided to preferentially administer Covid 19 vaccine to all Cancer, Diabetes Mellitus, Chronic Kidney Disease, Chronic Liver Disease, HIV, Tuberculosis and other such chronic illness patients.
Accordingly, ‘Special Vaccination Days for Chronic Illness Patients’ will be conducted on all Saturdays and Sundays at all Covid Vaccination Centres.
Health and Family Welfare Department, Assam issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Special Vaccination Drive for Diabetic, Cancer and Chronic Illness Patients.
The SOP issued by Assam Health and Family Welfare Department states –
“Whereas Government of Assam is undertaking vaccination of all eligible categories of population against Covid as per Government of India guidelines.
There is a provision for priority vaccination of people with co-morbidities in the past and it is observed that the incidence of mortality and secondary infections like Mucormycosis (black fungus), Candidiasis etc. These are more common in people with co-morbidities infected with Covid.
Therefore, the Government of Assam has decided all patients with chronic diseases shall be preferentially administered with Covid 19 vaccine.
Accordingly, ‘Special Vaccination Days for Chronic Illness Patients’ shall be conducted on all Saturdays and Sundays at all the CVCs where preference will be given for such patients.”

The Assam Health and Family Welfare Department further stated –
“Medical College Hospitals and State Cancer Institute, Guwahati shall undertake vaccination of all cancer patients reporting at the OPD.”
