After the much anticipated Assam Assembly election, the EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) and VVPATs (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) have been kept in 126 strong rooms against as many constituencies in the State.
All the EVMs and VVPATs will be taken out to the counting halls on May 2.
Counting of votes will begin from 8 am on that day.
State CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) Nitin Khade said, “For the safety of the EVMs and VVPATs, the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI) are being strictly followed.”
The State Election department has taken all the necessary arrangements with proper CCTV coverage.
No Political representatives are allowed to remain present at a certain distance to keep a vigil on the strong rooms round the clock.
As per information from Kamrup (M) District Election Officer Biswajit Pegu, there are four strong rooms in Kamrup (M) district.
Around each of the four strong rooms, there is three-layer security with vigil surveillance.
The inner-most layer immediately outside the strong room is manned by Central Police Forces (CPF), the middle layer by State Armed Police Force (SAPF). The outermost layer of the security level is manned by the State Police personnel.
