80% of work done: Asia’s largest detention camp underway

Asia’s largest and the world’s second-largest detention camp is underway under the supervision of the Assam Police Housing Department.

According to the reports, the camp is being under construction on 25 acres of land on the banks of the Dudhnoi River in Matia, Goalpara district, at a cost of Rs 64 crore.

Informing more on this official said, “The detention facility is for both the gender. The structures of 17 are being built in the camp, two of which will be reserved for women. We have already completed 80% of the work.”

Meanwhile, the huge camp will have many more facilities including— primary school, library, hospital, recreational activities, dining hall, kitchen and many more.

The detention complex has been under construction since 2018.
