Observing World Environment Day, around 200 youths across the country on Saturday took a pledge to safeguard the environment in the Indian Awaz Foundation’s “Gift For Future” virtual campaign. In the campaign, the youths pledged by holding a placard and uploaded a picture of it on their social media in order to raise awareness towards a sustainable environment. In return to the pledge, the Indian Awaz Foundation with the sole objective of “pledge to plant” is going to plant one tree for each pledge they receive.
To balance the perpetual hegemony of man over nature, the foundation came up with this unique campaign wherein youths mobilized themselves on various social media platforms. The foundation is going to plant one tree for one pledge in the flood-prone areas of Assam. Md Nazim Ahmed, Founder, Indian Awaz Foundation said the theme of the campaign stresses on the basic need to take a step forward and tag along other people towards achieving the goal of safeguarding the environment. He said, “The primary focus is to spread awareness of our environment and to remind ourselves of our significant role in contributing to the earth.”
“The Covid-19 situation came as a hurdle for the foundation to host a physical campaign, however, we thought it will safer and more effective to mobilize the youth towards this virtually”, he said.
“Despite it being virtual, the main objective of us was to take the responsibility to planting one tree per pledge, as a gift for our future. Many like-minded organizations across the country supported our campaign. We all have a same objective, that is, to make the world a better place to live,” he added.
Indian Awaz Foundation has been actively organizing various developmental works in the grassroots and the “Gift For Future” campaign is hosted each year on the World Environment Day. This campaign is an effort to give back our nature what it owes from the entire mankind.
The campaign is an attempt to raise the issue of global concern. The foundation believes that everyone must work together to ease the load on the environment where everyone can wake up to a tomorrow with lesser oxygen cylinders and more oxygen-giving plants. This is a contribution to gift the better sustainable future for the next generations.
