Two Encounters Breaks out at Kashmir’s Shopian and Anantnag Region

Two gunfights broke out between militants and security forces in the South Kashmir districts of Shopian and Anantnag on Saturday afternoon.

As per a Jammu and Kashmir police spokesperson, the gunfight in Shopian district broke out at the Hatipora area while as in Anantnag district, the firefight is underway at Semthan Bijbehara area of the district.
The spokesperson said that police and security forces have cordoned off the areas.
A joint team of Police, Army’s 34 RR, and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

According to the spokesperson, as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter.
As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
