Assam: Grenade blast at Tingrai Bazaar in Tinsukia district, death toll rises to 2

A grenade blast has been reported from Tingrai Bazar at Digboi in Tinsukia district of Assam. Two motorcycle-borne miscreants lobbed the grenade in front of a hardware shop owned by a person named Turan Agarwala.

Two persons have died in the incident. One of the victims has been identified as Surajit Talukdar. Surajit Talukdar succumbed to his injuries at the AMCH. Meanwhile, three other persons were also injured in the blast.

The other deceased person has been identified as Sanjiv Singh (25).

“It was around 1 PM when a customer came to our shop. Then the explosion took place. The customer and two other persons were also injured,” said an eye-witness.

Meanwhile, police started their investigation to unearth the further details.

The ULFA-I has denied any involvement in the incident.

The Army and Police have cordon off the area and have began an investigation in the case. Top officials including DIG arrived on the spot.

Following a grenade explosion at Digboi in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the director general of police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta to take stern action to nab the culprits.
