Assam Doctor Assaulted after Covid Patient Dies; 24 Arrested for Assault

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been personally monitoring the incident.

A doctor at a Covid care center in Hojai, Assam on Tuesday was mercilessly assaulted by a mob after a Covid patient died during treatment.
The assault, recorded presumably on a mobile phone, triggered a sharp protest from doctors and others.

The video clip of the violence against the doctor identified as Seuj Kumar Senapati went viral on social media triggering protests from doctors.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also called upon the barbaric assault and ordered the administration to take swift action.
“Such barbaric attacks on our frontline workers won’t be tolerated by our administration. @gpsinghassam @assampolice Ensure that the culprits brought to justice.” Himanta Biswa Sarma Twitted.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been personally monitoring the incident. So far 24 culprits involved in the assault against the doctor have been arrested.
“24 culprits involved in this barbaric attack have been arrested and the chargesheet will be filed at the earliest.
I am personally monitoring this investigation and I promise that justice will be served.” Himanta Biswa Sarma informed.

Meanwhile, following the incident, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday wrote to Central Home Minister Amit Shah seeking justice for the doctor, Seuj Kumar Senapati. The association also requested an effective and strong law against such violence.
